Literally meaning “the thread labyrinth”, Ito Meikyu uses 360-degree VR technology to weave together an interconnected compilation of spaces.
Your eyes are the key to movement in this experience: where you look is where you will go to explore. Seemingly connected and yet disparate, each space encourages you to spend as much time as you wish. The spaces themselves are drawn from the artist’s love of Japanese classical art and literature, most notably fukinuki yatai, The Tale of Genji and The Pillow Book. Winner of the Venice Immersive Grand Prize in 2024, Boris Labbé’s immersive work threads together an infinite labyrinth of spaces inhabited by figures, plants, animals, art and calligraphy.
“French animation director and artist Boris Labbé moves effortlessly from [animation] to the film festival world and its immersive extensions.” – Zippy Frames
