Indy the retriever and his human, Todd, leave the bustle of the city behind to move to a dilapidated country cabin that Todd’s grandfather once owned. At night, his doggy dreams are haunted by visions of an unfamiliar phantom pooch with an urgent warning.

A born movie star, the real-life Indy belongs to director Ben Leonberg and producer Kari Fischer, a married couple and creative duo who made the film over three years, their patience paying off with a profoundly affecting performance from their first-time canine lead. Far from a cheap trick, the camera’s commitment to maintaining Indy’s dog’s-eye view only intensifies the visual terror of the disproportionate surroundings, making for a genuinely frightening, innovative addition to the classic haunted-house genre that’ll send you out of the cinema with your tail between your legs.
