This account of an elderly woman’s nerve-racking journey across Manhattan is a heart-stoppingly sharp indictment of the US healthcare system.

When Carol goes to pick up her regular prescription, she learns that the medication that keeps her alive has more than doubled in price. This frenetic, naturalistic drama, which won IndieLisboa’s International Amnesty Award, follows the delivery-person as she races against the clock to find the necessary cash before her next dose is due, in a damning critique of the privatised US medical sector. Recalling the Safdie brothers’ gritty realism, this film’s handheld camerawork and snappy editing create visceral tension as we come to understand the protagonist’s isolation, precariousness and desperation.
