James Draper is a 23-year-old French-born, British-based producer who has been forging toward the music industry since he was a teenager. Opting for the mononym Draper, he began to seriously pursue music when he was 16 and started entering remix contests through the EDM community Indaba, where he would often win prizes and accolades for his work. Eventually, he released two EPs — The Introduction in 2010 and The Draper EP in 2012 — and was enlisted to write and produce with collaborators like Lapsley via a publishing deal with Turn First Artists. As of November 2015, Draper's aggregated plays on Soundcloud, Youtube and Spotify passed the 20 million mark. In July 2015 Draper released new single On You ft. Alby Hobbs, which would signify the start of his live outings via DJ performances at Wireless Festival, Reading Festival, Club NME at Koko and Community Festival. The track was subsequently playlisted on BBC Radio 1Xtra as well as crossing over to Radio 1's Huw Stephens. Draper has a string of live performances in early 2016, and a fast-filling diary for summer 2016 by way of UK and European festivals. With a foaming-at-the-mouth fanbase in North America that's been desperate to see him live for the past four years, SXSW 2016 promises to be one of the very first opportunities to do so.
