Xpect is a New York City based Producer/Turntablist/Cinematographer who has been known to infuse African musical elements into various types of music. He is American born but natively from Nairobi Kenya ( as well as Minneapolis/St Paul ).Coming from a background of having deejayed as a hiphop radio mixshow Dj in Minnesota to club Dj, tour Dj, Xpect has rocked turntables in the most unexpected places , playing vast music, and for the most unexpected artists such as manning the turntables live for hiphop legend KRS One, to reggae artist Warrior King, playing alongside Questlove of The Roots, and opening Dj for K'naan tour's Minneapolis Leg. On New Years 2015, he headlined a sold out Smirnoff New Years Festival in Naivasha , Kenya with attendance of over 10,000. While still based in Minnesota, he was founder of promotion company Mezesha Entertainment, one of few promotion crews which cultivated the Twin Cities' Afro-Carib Scene and nightlife. In New York City where he moved to further work on production, apart from spinning monthly gigs, he has been actively working with urban street dancers and artists on a new Afro Electronic Dance sound , for which he will have an album named "Beats Of No Nation " dropping late Spring 2016 as well as several beat tapes. While his DJ career has for the most part being in the spotlight, unbeknownst to many, Xpect has been a very active composer of deeply soulful and reflective experimental electronic chillout beats for self therapy and are a personal journal/diary in music form. Xpect actively shares the mood influenced music, which he calls "BeatStories" / FutureChill on his site www.xp3ct.com as well as on Instagram under his handles @djxpect @dreamslo_ #NYCVO In 2015, he released an Electronic Chillout EP album as well as a self produced/directed Short Film ( Music Montage) called "One Day" , under the moniker "Dream Slo". He chose a different moniker after hitting a brick wall while trying to explain to his fans and followers of uptempo Afro Carib music that he had a whole other musical side that leaned towards extremely chilled out and soulful electronic music. While walking the New York streets and creating sound/scene scape influenced music for the album, he was touched by the plight of scores of homeless individuals he came across sleeping in public spaces and has pledged to donate some proceeds from the "One Day" album to fight homelessness in New York City. He was also set to release his first album as Xpect, but delayed plans after SoundCloud terminated his account with music and thousands of followers built over the years. If all were to be summed up in one sentence, Xpect would be the Fire while Dream Slo is the ice.
