Genre:R & B
From the background to the front page, singer and songwriter Kei Pè (pronounced Kay Pea) identifies everything in life with its own rhythm and color. “Music is how we learned. I can remember learning our very first address because it was taught to me using a song.” Although never formally trained, she began to sing at the age of 3 with her older brother, Grammy nominated R&B artist MALI Music. The pair would continue to develop their musical talents in their Savannah, GA church. She sang her first solo, Goin’ Up Yonder by Tramaine Hawkins in front of her church congregation at the tender age of six.
Kei Pè recognized the impact that music had on people, exploring and studying different genres to gain an appreciation for the art. “Every sound has a different color and it paints a different picture from country, to opera, to rock, to soul. Regardless of the genre, at the end of every song you feel something, you know something, and you see a different picture. I want to sing what people feel but don’t talk about.” Kei Pè is an Indie Soul/ Contemporary artist with a multi-faceted range that allows her to cross over to R&B and pop with a desire to do Broadway and opera. She is influenced by Nina Simone, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Tweet, and Yolanda Adams.
She first hit the professional music scene in 2007 as a backup vocalist for her brother. Continuing to gain recognition in the music industry, she lent her voice to projects with music heavy hitters Tyrese, Crystal Aiken, and Akon. She can be heard on MALI Music's album "The 2econd Coming" released in 2009 and as a featured artist on the SoundWalk Music Group mixtape "The Come Up" in 2010. She has also provided vocal production on Jessica Reedy's 2014 project "Transparent".
During the Atlanta, GA stop of his 2015 Reveal Tour, MALI Music introduced his audience to Kei Pè for the first time as a solo artist performing her single Jonah (In The Belly). No longer in the background and taking center stage, Kei Pè is using her voice to paint her own pictures. “With music being more influential than ever, I will use my platform and my canvas to take music back to its roots where it empowered, encouraged, taught, and healed.” Her first official debut as a solo act at the 2015 Long Beach Gospel Fest with an estimated audience of 25,000, landed her on the front page of Press Telegram, a daily newspaper in Long Beach, CA. Her debut album will be released in the Spring of 2016.
