Declan McKenna

Genre:Pop

“He’s fantastic. Think Jamie T with a bit of Jake Bugg...maybe even a bit of early Beck.” – Matt Everitt, 6Music

At just 16 years of age, young Declan McKenna has achieved more than your average school-leaver. He’s been booking his own gigs since he was 14 years old, records whole albums in his bedroom and earlier this year won the Glastonbury Emerging Competition.

The young Hertfordshire artist uploaded a demo, ‘Brazil’, to his Bandcamp and Soundcloud page and made a video with a friend around London. In a little over 4 minutes, it was a track that kick-started his incredible summer that saw him sign to Columbia Records on his return to Glastonbury Festival, where he performed amongst his heroes.

He’s since pressed the track to blue vinyl and is getting plays at radio already, including from Huw Stevens, Zane Lowe, and 6Music as well as getting playlisted by BBC Introducing.

Its early days, but he is definitely one to watch.
