BIOGRAPHY
With a new sound resuscitating the New York music scene, Brooklyn introduces 19-year old artist Jimi Tents, an East New York native. Influenced by creators from Kanye West to Pink Floyd, Tents has created a bona fide style of music that is eclectic and nothing like the sound currently coming out of the NYC rap community. After graduating high school, Tents made the decision to full on attack the hip-hop art form by strictly focusing on developing music as a full time artist. The eldest of 3 siblings, Tents always knew what it felt like to maintain responsibility for those close to him. That responsibility became even more apparent after losing his home to foreclosure right amidst completion of his project. With that, the young emcee knew that this would be a dream that he’d have to chase to bring alive and has tirelessly proved that this is a chase he is willing to commit to. Tents used his dedication, drive and hunger to separate him from other up & comers, with his temperament being a humble-like charm, in such a boastful era in the hip-hop genre.Taking the extra mile to make his music and message cohesive, Tents spent 2 years preparing to step outside of himself to reveal a breath-taking vulnerability with his debut project. Since the release of his 1st single “Elmer Fudd,” Tents’ notoriety has skyrocketed. HotNewHipHop deemed Jimi the “new artist to keep tabs on” while Billboard recognizes his confidence and dedication to the culture and craft. His digital hit, “Elmer Fudd,” is now pushing over 150k plays on Soundcloud.Releasing his highly anticipated debut the 5 O’Clock Shadow EP in Oct. 2015, the project’s upbeat 2nd single, “Landslide,” didn’t fall short of peoples expectations. Tents was surprised to receive such an amazing response. Pitchfork reviewed the project stating, “5 O'Clock Shadow pulls off a professional introduction like a firm handshake and practiced party chatter, an accomplished first impression more than a winding conversation.” The Fader stated, “the extended version of his LP breathes new life into the New York scene.” Jimi Tents has accepted his responsibility and is well prepared to demonstrate his ability to play in the big leagues.
