Genre:World

Brooklyn Raga Massive is a musicians' collective and nonprofit inspired by Indian classical music. Four years ago they started a weekly concert series and jam session where they have cultivated a strong community of world class artists and music lovers. BRM has gone on to produce concerts of Terry Riley's "In C" with 20 mostly Indian classical instruments. Northern Spy Records plans to release BRM's "In C" recording later this year. They have also produced birthday raga tributes to John Coltrane, Ravi Shankar and George Harrison. BRM is currently artist in residence at Pioneer Works, a new arts incubator in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The NewYorker has called BRM, "leaders of the raga renaissance." BRM consists of numerous artists and ensembles all united by their love of Indian classical music. They will be represented at SXSW by the Orakel duo of Kane Mathis on kora and oud, and Roshni Samalal on tabla, along with Neel Murgai on sitar, David Ellenbogen on guitar and Vin Scialla, percussion. http://brooklynragamassive.com
